Following the successful sale of Gold Medal Travel to Thomas Cook, Terry was invited to join the Thomas Cook board of directors.

From his very first day in travel, Terry had set himself one clear ambition — to one day become CEO of Thomas Cook.

He was initially appointed CEO of Scheduled Services, overseeing all of the group’s tour operating brands. Under his leadership, the business sharpened its strategy and improved performance across multiple divisions. His deep understanding of retail, tour operations and distribution made him a natural fit to guide one of the world’s most iconic travel brands.

In a career-defining moment, Terry was appointed CEO of Thomas Cook — exactly 30 years after beginning his career in travel. It was the ultimate fulfilment of a lifelong goal and a testament to three decades of persistence, vision and leadership.

Terry’s achievements were later recognised when he was inducted into the Travel Industry Hall of Fame, honouring his outstanding contribution to the sector and marking the pinnacle of an exceptional travel career.

Going Places

Travel

Following the acquisition of Travelworld by Airtours PLC, Terry joined the board of Going Places, Airtours’ retail division.

He quickly recognised the need for a full restructure and presented a detailed transformation plan to the Airtours PLC board. Within weeks, he was appointed Managing Director.

Terry then led the merger of Going Places and Travelworld, creating UK Leisure Group (UKLG) — a combined retail network of 1,100 stores, employing 9,000 staff, and generating over £1 billion in annual turnover.

Under his leadership, the company became the UK’s leading seller of Airtours holidays, driven by a highly effective vertical integration strategy.

He also oversaw the relocation of operations to Airtours PLC’s new UK head offices, delivering a fully integrated and high-performing retail business.

Once the transformation was complete and the business was operating at peak performance, Terry chose to step down from his position.

Netflights core business revolves around transporting passengers on thousands of flights annually for the past three decades. Netflights offer an extensive range of 40,000 seating options and a variety of car hire choices, with over 8,500 pick-up and drop-off locations, with an intuitive website that simplifies online travel arrangements. Netflights is a member of the renowned Emirates Group, which provides substantial advantages in securing the most competitive deals long-haul holiday journeys. Netflights maintain close relationships with airlines, who in turn share details upcoming sales and promotions.

Voisey

Tech

In 2022, Voisey was one of the hottest apps on the planet, revolutionizing music and creativity. Voisey generated more original music globally than any other platform – all in a matter of weeks with 10,000% monthly growth in March 2022 with over 2M app launches. The Executive team were all highly experienced in music and tech, and looked to raise $10m in seed round from select investors at a pre-money valuation of $40m, having previously raised $1.2m from friends, family and seasoned angels. The Management team were looking to build and exit within 3-5 years, but sold Voisey to Snap Inc. in November 2020 for $50M.

Mapperati

Travel

After leaving Thomas Cook, Terry made a serious attempt to buy Guest Services Worldwide — a luxury hotel map and magazine publishing business operating with premium hotels across the globe. He saw the acquisition as a way to stay deeply connected to the luxury travel sector he loved.

When the deal fell through, Terry didn’t sulk; he built a competitor. He launched Mapparati, establishing its headquarters in Newport Beach, California, and focused primarily on the U.S. luxury hotel market. Over the next three years he scaled the company dramatically, adding complementary services such as Digimaps, and securing prestigious partnerships with Four Seasons, Mandarin Oriental, Ritz-Carlton, Peninsula, and other world-class brands.

After three successful years in California, Terry returned to the UK — and in a full-circle moment, sold Mapparati to Guest Services Worldwide, the very company he had originally tried to acquire.

Huddersfield Town

Terry bought Huddersfield Town in 1991 after attending just three board meetings and quickly realising the club needed both investment and direction.

During his tenure as chairman, Huddersfield Town reached the final of the Autoglass Trophy at Wembley, narrowly losing to Swansea City, before returning the very next season to win promotion in the Wembley play-off final against Bristol Rovers. Seeing 50,000 Huddersfield fans celebrating that victory remains one of Terry’s proudest moments.

His greatest legacy, however, was the vision and creation of a brand-new 20,000-seat all-seater stadium — a pioneering project that became the blueprint for the new Wembley.

Terry was proud to be the youngest chairman in the Football League, and to have led the club through two Wembley appearances, a promotion, and the building of a state-of-the-art stadium — all within his remarkable tenure.

A lifelong Leeds United supporter and former Huddersfield Town chairman, Terry Fisher has long been immersed in the world of football both on and off the pitch. He was twice involved in consortiums attempting to purchase Leeds United — ventures that, while ultimately unsuccessful, reflected his enduring passion for the club. Those efforts occasionally sparked tension with Huddersfield fans, but Terry’s commitment to the game never wavered.

Following the takeover attempts, his company, Netflights.com, became Leeds United’s shirt sponsor for three seasons — a partnership that remains a proud chapter in his business and sporting story. Today, Terry enjoys the game from the stands as a loyal season ticket holder, regularly attending home matches with his two children.
